Friday, February 3rd - Michigan SOGI Education Conference
8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Michigan's first state-wide conference on sexual orientation and gender indentity (SOGI) issues in education will be held at Oakland University in Rochester. The conferece objectives are to promote dialogue about important issues involving sexual orientation and gender identity in schools and universities; provide staff, teachers and administrators with opportunities to inform and influence how colleges of education are preparing teachers and administrators to effectively addresss these areas of difference; and to identify ways that colleges of education and community-based resources can assist practitioners in effectively meeting the needs of their LGBT students, staff, faculty and administrators. April 13th to 15th - The Laramie Project Dramatic, real-life narrative of the small town of Laramie, Wyoming, during the aftermath of the brutal murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depth to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable. Each performance will have a Talk Back by the director, actors, and members of the GLAD Network from Dow. Midland Center for the Arts, Little Theatre. 8:00 pm on Fri. & Sat., 3:00 pm on Sun. Tickets $19 adult / $11 student.

Thursday, November 15th - Gay American Smoke Out
The Gay American Smoke Out is an opportunity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) individuals to challenge themselves to quit smoking. The Gay American Smoke Out was first introduced in 1994 by the Billy DeFrank Lesbian and Gay Community Center. Typically held on the 3rd Thursday in November, The "Gay American Smoke Out" was created to coincide with the American Cancer Society's "Great American Smokeout."
Tuesday, November 20th - Transgender Day of Remembrance
2012 marks the 14th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. The day was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998 kicked off the "Remembering Our Dead" web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.
